I first began my study of the martial arts at age 10. Now in my career, I has studied T'ai Chi & Qigong for more than 12 years, and taught for a decade. After two years of Chinese language (Mandarin) study at my university, I spent a summer abroad in China studying Mandarin, and was granted the opportunity to study T'ai Chi & Qigong with my Master's Master in Beijing. Before returning to the US, I was offered a position as his permanent student and given permission to teach in the US. I continued my study of Chinese Medicine in Chicago, with future plans to finish my studies. For more information on my T'ai Chi & Qigong class visit the group instruction schedule.
Qigong ("Chee Gong") translates from Chinese as "Energy Work." T'ai Chi is a martial art type of Qigong, practiced in a set of movements called forms, that include punches, kicks, throws, and blocks. It's proper name, T'ai Chi Chuan ("Tie Chee Chwan") translates as "Supreme Ultimate Fist," and is represented by the very well known Yin Yang Symbol. Yin and Yang are the positive and negative energies that are the balance of our daily lives, the world around us, and the universal whole.
Easily recognized by their slow and graceful movements, T'ai Chi & Qigong are what I call "complete exercises" because they work all 3 of your vital life components: Mind, Body, and Energy (Qi). Often referred to as "moving meditations," they are practiced by millions worldwide everyday.
